Unwins Popcorn Sweetcorn Robust a fast-maturing variety. Their cobs can be allowed to dry, then microwaved to produce your own fluffy popcorn.



We suggest leaving the corn cobs on the plants until they become hard around October time. Store them in a cool dry place, and when required take separate kernels off the cob to cook.



Sweetcorn Robust is also well-suited to British Isles conditions.

    Sowing Indoors
    Sow seeds individually in small pots of moist seed compost 2.5cm deep. Place in the warmth, 15-18°C. Grow on under cool, light conditions, but not in direct sunlight.
    Hardening Off/Planting Out
    Gradually accustom young plants to conditions outside for 2-3 weeks before planting out to their cropping positions when danger of frost has passed. To ensure good pollination, plant in blocks, allowing 45cm each way between plants.
    Sowing Outdoors
    Water sowing positions well, then sow two seeds 2.5cm deep at stations 45cm apart each way. Keep soil moist until seedlings are well established. When seedlings are around 8cm high, discard the weaker at each station and leave the stronger to develop. Do not transplant weaker seedlings as they do not thrive.
    Advice
    Cover with fleece if planting out before the risk of frost has passed. Leave the corn cobs on the plants until they become hard, usually in October. Store the cobs in a cool, dry place. When required, take the kernels off the cob, place them in a clean paper bag and microwave them for about a minute.
