Sowing Indoors

Almost fill a seed tray or modules with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly and cover with a little more compost. Place in the warmth, 15-20°C.

Growing On

Keep seedlings in a light position, but out of direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm apart in to trays of potting compost.

Transplanting

Gradually accustom plants to outside containers for 2-3 weeks before planting out to their cropping positions. Allow 15cm between plants and 30cm between rows. For really big onions , allow 30cm between plants and 45cm between rows.

Sowing Outdoors

Sow seeds thinly in a pre-watered shallow row, lightly covering with a little soil. Keep moist in dry spells.

Thinning

Thin seedlings to 15cm apart to allow full development of the bulbs.
