Sowing Indoors
Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface and lightly cover them with a little more compost. Place in the warmth, 10-15°C and keep moist.
Growing On
When large enough to handle transplant seedlings 5cm apart to trays of potting compost. Gradually accustom them to conditions outside for 2-3 weeks before planting out to their cropping positions 25cm apart during summer.
Sowing Outdoors
Rake soil to provide a firm, even surface. Sow seeds thinly in pre-watered soil, lightly covering with a little more soil. Keep moist until seedlings appear and as required in dry spells. When large enough to handle, thin seedlings to allow their development.
Advice
Spring sowings will bloom later the same year; autumn sowings will bloom earlier the following year, but will need some fleece protection from hard frosts.
