Tips & Advice:
Sowing Outdoors
Sow directly into the required position. Sow two beans 5cm deep, 10cm apart. Keep soil moist at all times.
Digging In
For best results sow in autumn and, in spring when the beans are around 45cm high, cut down and dig or rotavate them in at a depth of about 15cm. Leave the ground to settle for about 3 weeks after digging in, then sow or plant the next crop as soon as possible. Alternatively cut them, allow to regrow and then dig in before flowering.
Advice
Ensure watering is carried out during dry weather to encourage leaf growth. Field beans can tolerate a reasonable level of frost, but are killed by temperatures below about -10°C.
