Tips & Advice:
Sowing Indoors
Almost fill a pot or small seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface and lightly cover them with a little more compost. Cover the pot or tray in a polythene bag to retain moisture and keep at around 15°C in part-shade, where seedlings should emerge within 2-3 weeks. If they do not, place in the bottom of a fridge at around 4°C for 3- 4 weeks, then return to the previous conditions.
Growing On
Keep seedlings in a light position but shade from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm apart into trays of potting compost.
Hardening Off/Planting Out
Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out in full sun or light shade from early summer onwards. Allow 20cm between plants.
Advice
Thriving in open sites with plenty of light, they prefer to be planting in grassland areas which are not regularly cut.
