Tips & Advice:
Sowing Indoors
Level fill a module tray with seed compost, firming with the base of another tray. Water well with a fine rose. Sow seeds individually and lightly cover with vermiculite. Place in a propagator at 18-20°C or cover tray with cling film and leave in a warm room. Keep moist.
Growing On
When shoots appear, remove cling film. Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When plants have 4 leaves transplant to 8cm pots of potting compost. Grow coolly and steadily at a minimum temperature of 15°C.
Planting Out
Gradually accustom plants to outdoor conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out when temperatures exceed 10°C. Transfer to large pots (minimum 30cm), grow bags, or in a border 45cm apart either in a greenhouse or in a sunny, sheltered spot outside.
Support
Semi-bush varieties grow like cordon varieties (only not so tall) and require training up canes, strings or wires. Remove side shoots as they appear.
Advice
Tomatoes are thirsty and hungry plants. Feed and water regularly and remember to ventilate your greenhouse on warm days. Pinch out the growing tip once it reaches the top of the support, allowing a maximum of 6 fruiting trusses.
